I’ve received a few emails asking questions about the two golden eagle take opportunities. This is a quick update to hopefully help clear up any confusion.
There are actually 2 opportunities (lotteries) lining up this year. The first lottery is for the ongoing depredation going on in Wyoming (rancher has the permit for two eagles in hand.) The second lottery for the 'shortened’ or ‘beta version' of the National Eagle Allocation Procedure that the states are managing for future depredation or rehabbed golden eagles.
Related to the Wyoming depredation. We've been asking folks to not contact the feds, rancher, or Wyoming F&G until you've reached out to us first. We've been trying to help answer questions while helping the feds, rancher, and state from having to answer dozens of calls and questions. If we can’t answer your questions, then feel free to do the needful. The drawing for the two falconers will happen in less than a week. For more details about the Wyoming opportunity click here: https://www.n-a-f-a.com/news/444406/Wyoming-Eagle-Take-Details.htm
As for the National Eagle Allocation Procedure, the timeline, as noted in the March 3rd email, is:
- 4/5/19 - Application Deadline for falconers to apply.
- 4/5/19 - 4/26/19 State's submit certified list of qualified/interested falconers to DSWA.
- 5/17/19 - There will be an official Drawing of names and listing the first 10 eligible falconers.
If your state hasn't reached out to you about this opportunity yet, you should probably reach out to them. If your state coordinator is unaware of the National Eagle Allocation Procedure, I’ve attached it for further clarification. The state deadline for submitting your name to the Designated State Wildlife Agency (DSWA) is 4/26, which gives states a little bit of a buffer.
Hope this helps clarify things.
Feel free to call or email if you have any questions...
