Dear Falconer,

On May 29, 2018, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service published proposed rules for hunting and fishing regulations in the National Refuge System, with an open comment period that ends on June 28, 2018. These rules set specific conditions for hunting and fishing on specific refuges across the nation, and include considerations for falconry on a refuge-by-refuge basis. The proposed rules are available at:

https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2018/05/29/2018-11204/2018-2019-refuge-specific-hunting-and-sport-fishing-regulations

In response, NAFA submitted the attached comment on June 1, 2018 advocating for more falconry access across the National Wildlife Refuge System. NAFA has recently been working on increasing falconry opportunities on federal lands, and this opportunity for comment presents both our organization and our members the ability to demonstrate our desire to practice our tradition on more federally controlled lands.

Should you wish to comment on the proposed rules and show your desire for more falconry access on federal lands, we suggest submitting a comment before the June 28, 2018 deadline. Examples of comments can include simple statements such as:

“I am a falconer, and I fully support the June 1, 2018 comment submitted by the North American Falconers Association requesting increased falconry opportunities in the National Wildlife Refuge System”

or

“I am a falconer, and desire the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to consider increased hunting access for falconers in the National Wildlife Refuge System. Please work to increase falconry opportunities wherever possible.”

Comments will be accepted if postmarked or received by June 28, 2018, by mailing or submitting via website to the following addresses:

Let your voice be heard.... Please take the time to respectfully respond with a message in support of expanded access to National Wildlife Refuges for falconers.

Thank you for your continued support of NAFA, and together we can work to ensure that our ancient cultural heritage tradition can be practiced on an ever-increasing array of lands across the United States and beyond.

Sincerely,
