Additional Sponsors are welcome to sign up. Sponsors giving more than $300 will be given recognition on the Meet's T-shirt.

Monday and Tuesday are dedicated to hunting near Farson, Wyoming. On Tuesday evening, October 17, at 7 pm, there is a banquet & auction with keynote speaker, Ms. Lauren McGough, Cultural Anthropologist and Executive Director for The Falconry Fund sharing her adventures with eagle falconry on four continents. The ½ day workshop is Wednesday October 18 beginning at 7:30 am, followed by lunch and hunting with eagles near Farson, Wyoming in the afternoon. Wednesday morning, October 18 will be a “no fly” period so everyone can attend the workshop. Opening remarks and Introductions will be by Host - Dr. Steve Porter, IEAA President. Speakers are not confirmed, topics include:

  • USFWS Raptor Biologist - U.S. Golden eagle population status, management plan, and where falconry fits in.
  • USDA Wildlife Services manager- documented eagle depredation on livestock and wildlife.
  • USFWS/USDA wildlife research biologist and/or Wyoming Animal Damage Management Board member - the history and facts on hazing, trapping, and relocation of eagles.
  • Wyoming Game and Fish representative - Wyoming’s perspective on Golden Eagle predation, eagle management, and falconry.

Following Wednesday’s hunting, everyone is on their own for supper. There will be an evening panel discussion, and no-host bar, at the hotel at 8 pm. Each panel member will give a 5-10 minute summary of their view on the future for ensuring eagle falconry, to be followed by discussion among the panel members, and ending with thoughts and questions from the attendees. Panelists have not been finalized. Proposed Panel composition is -

  • Wyoming rancher
  • USDA Wildlife Services Director
  • USFWS Director Region 6
  • NAFA Board Member

The banquet, workshop, and panel discussion are currently limited to 80 attendees due to room size. Hunting will continue every day thru Saturday, with a pizza party and presentation by Dr. Vicki Joseph DVM on her experiences working with Golden Eagles scheduled for Friday evening.

Meet/Workshop organizers strongly recommend participants make their hotel reservations prior to September 15 for the special rate of 90$ per night in order to secure any special requirements such as a dog friendly room or a ground floor room with a private, outdoor entry. Rooms 231 thru 250 offer a view and quick access to the weathering yard and we recommend anyone bringing an eagle make their reservations early to secure one of these rooms. An unattended weathering yard for eagles will be provided. For more information on the Meet headquarters hotel and reservations contact the Best Western Outlaw Inn at (307) 362-6623.
